Abstract
A new advanced digital system approach has been developed within Eureka DAB project 147 working jointly with the EBU to provide for digital audio broadcasting specifically intended for mobile and portable reception, in addition to use of fixed receivers. The paper concentrates on the various frequency planning aspects of such a service and on the results of field trials of an experimental terrestrial broadcast system carried out in the London area early in 1990. The approach is suitable for both terrestrial and satellite broadcasting systems in the VHF and/or UHF bands and complementary implementations may be foreseen, as appropriate to meet different service requirements
