The author assess the suitability of PCN and other radio based technologies as a replacement for fixed wire telecommunications technologies, considering in particular the rural situation. This is of relevance to both developed countries where rural telecommunications is a high cost element of business, and to developing countries where a rural service is important for economic, industrial, and social development
