Abstract :
In optical packet switching, generally data is stored in optical fiber delay lines to resolve contention amongst the packets. The storage time of the packet in the buffer is limited by the ASE (amplified spontaneous emission) noise of the amplifier and crosstalk. Thus available buffer space is not fully utilized because of the circulation limits on the packet in the buffer. This paper proposes a regenerator based fiber loop buffer switch in which, signal is regenerated after some fixed number of circulations. This paper also simulates the structure and compares it with an earlier architecture.
