Abstract
ReDS (Requirements Driven Scheduler) is a knowledge-based scheduling system aimed at highly dynamic and flexible production environments. It was developed at Siemens Corporate Research and Support Inc. Siemens Corporation Brussels delivers customer support for ReDS users. The ReDS system has been applied successfully in several job-shop manufacturing environments within the Siemens concern. In this paper the author contrasts other approaches to shop-floor scheduling with the ReDS approach and highlight the most important features and techniques of the ReDS environment
