Abstract
Geographical planning is a process undertaken by humans in daily activities. The Geoplanner is designed to aid this process, difficult even by human standards. Using AI techniques, a blackboard model is developed which incorporates modules capable of collectively undertaking such tasks. The organization, model, and implementation of the Geoplanner is described, highlighting its flexibility and modularity. The associated object oriented knowledge base including a representation of routing networks is discussed from the perspective of human cognitive maps. A route planner, mimicking human planning behaviour, is illustrated with examples to show its efficiency in planning routes through these networks
