Abstract
The paper presents a fast inter coding mode decision method by confidently jointing the orientation information and the partition-pattern information of most two adjacent coded macroblocks (MBs). The key idea is to efficiently integrate the information of coding mode partition form of immediate upper and left coded MBs and their orientations to achieve a confident estimate of current coding mode. The pure use of two most neighboring MBs as predicative MBs can avoid the prediction uncertainty, which will lead the desired acceleration of coding mode decision contrarily to become extra ineffectual computational burden. The orientation of predicative MB could reflect a proper geometrical meaning of partition pattern of its own coding mode to the current coding. According to this meaning, an effective interpretation can arise and then be exploited in the prediction of inter-coding mode of current coding MB. The experiments demonstrate that the proposed prediction mechanism can highly suppress the complexity of H.264 with good accuracy compared with the optimal coding mode decision of exhausted trying and searching.
