Abstract
A novel principle of diffraction in which an observation point acts as the center of the diffraction phenomenon is proposed. In the conventional theory a point source acts as the center. By combining the novel principle with the concept of diffraction in mirror images, a diffraction theory for polyhedrons is formulated, and it is applied to a semi-infinite plane. The far-field solutions obtained with this principle are compared with Kirchoff´s theory
