Abstract :
Modeling software on an abstract machine, we study the power consumption (energy) requirement in solving two of the most popular software problems: search and sorting. Sorting consumes /spl sim/N times more energy than search where N is the data size. For the same problem and the same data size, the energy requirement for different algorithms could also vary by orders of magnitude.
