The author discusses the problems of coin operated domestic electricity meters and the development of token meters to overcome the problems. The market research, field trials, and technical specifications are briefly discussed. The use of magnetic token meters in place of plastic token meters is discussed including the sale of tokens and automatic dispensers. The performance and benefits of token metering are discussed
