  • Abstract
The GEC Smart Card system is a significant advance in prepayment electricity meter technology. The contactless system greatly improves reliability by removing the need for physical contact with the internal electronics and the possibility of having no slots or apertures. Intelligence in the token allows multiple applications to be handled hence creating new opportunities from sharing the infrastructure or renting space on the card. Electronics for the token will be packaged in a standard sized plastic credit card. Use of a high level operating system and commands ensures compatibility with future upgrades in token or meters
