  • Abstract
Features characterizing the `offshore´ assembly engineer in the semiconductor industry (i.e. an engineer working in a wafer fabrication and assembly site in a country other than that in which the semiconductor company has its base) are described. Several suggestions are given for actions that can lead to a fuller utilization of the potentials of the offshore engineer: (1) start with the understanding that the manufacturing engineer is a partner, even if located on the other side of the globe, and do as much as possible to ensure his or her partnership in new development projects; (2) provide an opportunity for continuing education
