Abstract :
This paper first reviews the original pyramidal coding method by Burt and Adelson (1983) and then the sketch based enhancement. An improved version of the latter, which uses chain coding rather than just raster scanning, is also mentioned. Then the application of arithmetic coding to sketch based LPC is justified and described, followed by examples of compressing the image `Lena´
