Abstract :
Application of a continuous pseudo-colour spectrum is an image enhancement process carried out on a monochrome image representing the spatial variation of some physical quantity, whereby each possible greyscale value of a given pixel is transformed into a unique triad of red (R), green (G) and blue (B) display values to facilitate visual interpretation. The use of the word `spectrum´ doses not imply any close connection with a dispersed spectral distributed of light, other than the exploitation of a familiar and logical sequence of hues in a continuously progressive sequence. This enhancement process is independent of any contrast enhancement for `windowing´ process which might also be invoked to alter the greyscale values to be worked on by the pseudo-colour display process
