Abstract :
A fully digital HDTV (high-definition TV) DTBS (direct TV broadcasting by satellite) system is presented. One of the main characteristics of the system is a dual-channel approach combined with quadrature amplitude modulation. The two channels correspond to normal TV resolution and to the HF complement, the first one being highly compatible with MAC systems. The power is unequally split between the two channels, more power being devoted to the normal TV channel so as to keep normal TV receiving installations rather modest. In order to obtain efficient dual-channel splitting, a noninterlaced signal is used
