Abstract :
In the paper a concept of generator for ship electric network based on squirrel cage machine driven by propeller shaft is proposed. Electric energy generated by a squirrel cage machine is double converted because of variable speed of propeller shaft. Problems of generator operation starting, initial excitation procedure for sensorless control system and parallel operation of two generators were analyzed. Results of simulation investigations were validated by experiment.
