Abstract :
Rigorous expansions of modes of the dielectric slab waveguide in terms of the cylindrical functions are given. Using these expansions, the problem of scattering and mode conversion of guided modes by a circular cylinder is analyzed approximately. Some representative numerical results for a symmetric slab waveguide are presented.
