Abstract
The earlier warning of electronic systems failure provided by canaries attached to them can effectively reduce system life cycle operational costs with respect to spare parts and replacement decisions. This paper presents a theoretical model for the derivation of the expected total cost per unit time in terms of the order interval and maximum allowable stock level.
