Abstract
In this paper, a static compensator (STATCOM) model in EMTP RV of a voltage source converter (VSC) is presented. The STATCOM is connected to the end of a transmission line. The DC/AC conversion is obtained by using pulse width modulation (PWM) based on a current hysteresis controller. By regulating the reference current, an adjustable current can be injected into the transmission line. The synchronous rotating reference frame is used for model construction and a phase-lock loop (PLL) is used for controller synchronization. Different small-signal disturbances are introduced to validate the model
