Abstract :
Shunt FACTS devices are now recognize as a solution for controlling transmission voltage, power flow, transient response by virtue of control various electrical parameters in transmission line. In this paper, the optimal location of shunt FACTS devices in transmission line for highest possible benefit under normal condition is investigated. Three different line models namely, line impedance model, reactance model and pi(π) model are considered for investigation. It is found that the shunt FACTS device needs to be placed slightly off the center to get maximum benefit in terms of power transfer capability and transient stability of the single machine - infinite bus 345 kV systems.
