Abstract :
A novel beam adjustable planar antenna is presented in this paper. Beam adjustable microstrip array antenna (BA-MSAA) is composed of a feed-MSA (F-MSA) and parasitic-MSAs (P-MSAs) loaded with a variable reactance to control the shape of the beam. H-shaped MSA elements are introduced for the F-MSA and the P-MSAs to downsize the BA-MSAA without degradation of the antenna performance. The size of the antenna can be reduced about 1/5 from the conventional BA-MSAA. Good beam shaping performance with stable return-loss characteristics is obtained by the test antenna, which is comparable to the conventional one.
