Abstract :
Wideband CDMA (WCDMA) has been selected as the radio access technology for UMTS/IMT-2000 in Europe and Japan. Detailed specification is under discussion in standardization bodies throughout the world. This paper presents and discusses performance results derived with a WCDMA based test system in laboratory and field experiments. The test system is employed to study and demonstrate wireless multimedia applications. Extensive investigations of the performance of the WCDMA technology have been conducted. Our performance results verify that WCDMA is a mature access technology, ready to meet the requirements defined for third-generation mobile radio
