Abstract :
In the process of monitoring eco-environment in the areas that may be impacted by Three Gorges Project (TGP), a large database of eco-environmental monitoring data is acquired. The data is cross-region, cross-department, multi-hierarchy and comprehensive. According to data characteristics and the subjects that the data belongs to, we divide these data into 12 themes such as water resource, land resource based on remote sensing dynamic monitoring, fishery & aquatic biology, local climate, agricultural ecology, health public, etc. The data is the basis of environmental impact evaluation and government decisions. So it is very significant to manage and make full use of those data. Meanwhile, the complexity of multi-source eco-environmental data poses great challenge to us in the development of data management information system. The aim of eco-environmental data management information system for TGP (EDMIS) was just developed for the integrated management of geospatial data and non-geospatial data, and to improve the efficiency and safety of eco-environmental data management. EDMIS provides a user-friendly management interface allowing for easy data management. It is extremely flexible and safe in eco-environmental data management. In addition, EDMIS provides great support to further data analysis and data mining. The data updating using EDMIS can be automatically reflected in other information systems for TGP such as data searching and analysis information systems and decision support system which were also developed by us. The paper introduces the associated custom software component developed using Visual Basic for applications and ArcObjects within the environmental system research institute ARCGIS 9.0 software. It illustrates the functions of EDMIS and the implementation techniques used in developing EDMIS. The paper also presents briefly some data analysis application in other information systems related with EDMIS.
