Abstract
This paper introduces OPC (OLE for process control) technology, which is an industrial software interface standard. In consideration of the problem that the conventional software architecture doesnpsilat suit complex monitoring and management system for area or basin water resources, an open three-tier architecture of distributed monitoring and management system based on OPC and component technology is presented, with detailed exposition of its tier structure. Because of its good openness, flexibility, compatibility, reliability and maintainability, this software architecture is suitable for the real-time monitoring and management system for large area or basin water resources.
