Abstract :
In this paper, we present a comparison design of second-order delta-sigma modulators based on operational amplifiers and unity-gain buffers. Compared with those using operational amplifiers, the delta-sigma modulators using unity-gain buffers have some attractive features, such as higher frequency operation, reduced capacitance spread, etc. A test chip containing two modulators using operational amplifiers and using unity-gain buffers was implemented in a 0.8 μm double-metal CMOS process. Measurement results confirmed the better performance of the modulator using unity-gain buffers
