Abstract :
Software developed by the author to support the task of online interactive vehicle scheduling is described. This software has been designed to meet the needs of `Dial-a-Ride´ operations. They develop vehicle schedules interactively to meet users needs which are received over the telephone. The software is operational at Tyne and Wear PTE and an enhanced version is used by Merseyside PTE. The author gives details of the human computer interface which is used and explains the choice of programming language operating system platform. The author continues with the proposed solution to a wider problem-computerised interactive vehicle scheduling for large (>50) vehicle fleets. This solution is based on multi-dimensional indexing techniques
