Abstract :
The Joint Operational Tactical System (JOTS) II was developed to provide a highly transportable `core´ command and control system that can be used as both a functional/operational C2 system and a developmental environment for distributive, networked systems at diverse activities. Extending the metaphor of open systems architecture to command and control, JOTS II is coded on top of several layers of contractor-off-the-shelf software (UNIX, X-Windows, GUI, RDBMS, X.25, etc.) and provides a collection of inter-operating client-server applications that perform generic command and control activities, as well as a host of multi-purpose military functions. The concept enables user activities to concentrate their development in their functional mission areas rather than the underlying support C2 applications. JOTS II is a real-time networked force fusion and situation tracking system, a communications and message management system, a distributed data processing system, and an advanced tactical planning and alternatives assessment system. It incorporates modern and generic methods for data processing, display, and data distribution, as well as state-of-the-art mathematical modelling for prediction and state filtering
