Abstract
Proposes a conceptual model, called FMOS (flexible manufacturing operational system) which minimizes and encapsulates the plant´s specific aspects, rendering the design and the greater part of the software, largely reusable. This model is well equipped to represent diverse configurations of automation systems, from the manufacturing cell with a robot to transfer pieces from one machine center to another, to the flexible manufacturing system using pallet handling systems. The structure of FMOS, the cycle intermediate language (CIL), and the management of local units are described
