Abstract :
In this study, a simple and novel control technique is introduced for power factor correction (PFC) in boost rectifiers with high input power factor. Operation of the proposed method is based upon sampling the input and output voltages of the boost rectifier and a comparison technique which is used to generate the proper PWM control pulses for the switch. As a result the line currents total harmonic distortion (THD) is reduced and consequently the input power factor improved. In order to further investigate the proposed control technique, its performance is compared with that of a conventional active current mode (ACM) control method for the power factor correction utilizing boost rectifiers. Computer simulations and experimental implementations are used in order to compare the performance of the proposed method in this study with that of the conventional ACM method and also to verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed control technique.
