Abstract :
A detailed and dynamic RF path loss map of a large wireless network is critical to applications such as power-efficient routing, unknown emitter locating, spectrum management, etc. With an RF sensor network, we can measure the path loss between sensors. Based on these path loss measurements, we can devise simple but robust and efficient algorithms to estimate the path loss between any sensor and any arbitrary point inside the network. The estimation accuracy of our algorithm is analyzed and quantified as a function of key model parameters, leading to estimates of required sensor density for different environments and accuracy requirements. The derived relationship between estimation accuracy and network coverage has implications for deployment of sensor networks.
