Abstract :
Disease or damage to articular cartilage is major problem of medical science. In this paper we have demonstrated a novel preliminary attempt to analyze surface characteristics of articular cartilage with a noncontact method. We have utilized Environmental Scanning Electron Microscope (ESEM) to obtain the surface morphology of cartilage of the lower femoral head of a Bovine sp. at the nanoscale. Surface roughness has been computed from the ESEM images with three dimensional reconstruction of the surface tomography.
