Abstract
In this paper we have discussed a substrate integrated horn antenna that uses a slot in a ground plane as an aperture to radiate broadside. The SIRC to SIW transition has been analyzed separately and then has been used to feed the horn. A peak gain of almost 13 dBi has been achieved. The broadside substrate integrated horn antenna has many potential applications because of its low profile and compact design. Future research may include the study of the use of this horn as a feed for several other potential gain enhancing designs, such as stacked dielectric layers, dielectric resonator antennas, EBG structures, or reflectors.
