Abstract :
Focusing on the downlink cell throughput of cell deployment scenarios of the HCS (hierarchical cell structure) system, the performances of various cell deployment scenarios, indicating the location of microcell base stations (BS), are analyzed. The location of a microcell BS should be close to a macrocell edge in the case of a macrocell BS and a microcell BS operated in the concurrent FA. The comparison of major cell deployment scenarios, such as an underlying microcell at the cell edge of WCDMA (strategy 1) and macrocell BS and microcell BS colocated in a hot-spot (strategy 2), are also introduced. Comparing the QoS improvement and higher local cell throughput of strategy 1, the multi-layer system, i.e., strategy 2, gives the higher total cell throughput.
