Abstract :
Cellular, paging and personal communication systems (PCS) are only three examples of the ever expanding world of wireless communications. Telecommunication industry experts are projecting that this global market will continue to increase through the turn of the century. One of the challenges to this planned deployment is the availability of appropriate sites. This paper describes an attempt to ease this particular challenge by offering service providers a wireless telecommunications package that is more space efficient than a traditional large walk in building. The power plant consists of two AC line powered rectifiers and a control panel to generate the required 24 V for the system cellular equipment and the battery charging capability. To provide the required -48 V power, two 24 V to -48 V power converters are utilized. Power distribution panels for the 24 V and -48 V are provided. Plant capacity is 2400 W in an N+1 redundant arrangement with 100 A available at 24 V and 20 A available at -48 V. Maximum reserve energy available capacity in this cabinet is 1250 Ah at the required 24 V
