Abstract
In this paper, considering the dynamic use of the RTS and CTS frame exchange, a real-time algorithm updating the RTS-CTS threshold dynamically according to the number of transmission attempts and the number of STAs in the BSS is proposed to give the maximum MAC throughput of IEEE 802.11e wireless LANs supporting the EDCA MAC protocol. Numerical examples are presented to show that the proposed algorithm enhances the EDCA MAC throughput of IEEE 802.11e wireless LANs when the length of data frames is variable, based on the experimental statistics.
