  • Abstract
    The detailed knowledge of the control and regulation circuits installed in the French end of the Cross Channel HVDC link has been used to realize a numerical model of the interconnection, the aim of which is to predict the behaviour of the combined DC link/AC system in case of various AC, fault scenarios and to avoid expensive field tests. The following validation oscillograms have shown that the simulations made with this model can be used with confidence. The fidelity of the results delivered could probably be greater by using models of higher precision with respect to their nonlinear or frequency dependant characteristics (magnetising current of transformers, losses of the various components etc.) The EMTP model of the Cross Channel link does not pretend to replace an HVDC simulator regarding the facility of exploitation as the preparation and running of simulations are long and demand a great amount of calculation time
