Abstract
Hybrid space-time coding plus adaptive antenna (beamforming) schemes have being researched because of their large increase of capacity. The association with multiple input multiple output (MIMO) channels has also being analysed. The paper shows the enhancement of BER performance and capacity of the future broadband UMTS network air interface, based on the combination of different wireless techniques, namely, beamforming, space-time coding, MIMO systems and adaptive coding/modulation schemes. Link and system level simulations of a real scenario were carried out to evaluate the capacity gain.
