Abstract :
A motor/drive selection problem is given as an example of the use of spreadsheet techniques. A selection process is particularly well suited to the `what-if´ aspect of spreadsheet usage. The solution proposed is not technically complex, but the routines developed require minimal development effort and eliminate the need for tedious repetitive manual calculations. They are envisaged as a way of relatively a designer of routine work. When fully automated, they should be readily usable by appropriate nondesign personnel with only a small period of initial familiarisation. The particular example chosen is the specification of a permanent-magnet DC servo motor required to meet a defined torque-speed load requirement
