Abstract :
Improved means of accurately measuring induction motor losses are becoming increasingly important because of the ever-present pressure for higher efficiency and the difficulties in applying the accepted methods to motors supplied by power electronic drives. The balance calorimeter described by the authors overcomes the worst difficulties of traditional calorimetry, and provides a more direct, sensitive and accurate measurement of induction motor losses than either the segregation of losses or the input-output method; the cost of the equipment required is also less than for the other methods described
