Abstract :
Despite different implementation methods and operational frequencies, analog phase shifters suffer from the imbalance insertion loss (IL) as the control voltage varies. In this case, satisfying phase conjugate condition or coherent beamforming does not necessarily lead to the maximum phased array gain. We introduce noncoherent beamforming and demonstrate that by sacrificing coherency partially, the array factor will increase. Moreover we show that noncoherent beamforming is less sensitive to the variation of the received signal frequency.
