Abstract
The excitation control system of a turbine generator is primarily required to control and protect the generator. The heart of the excitation control system is the automatic voltage regulator (AVR). The authors briefly describe the selection, software implementation and evaluation of techniques used for the measurement of terminal quantities in the digital AVR. A brief review of the popular measurement techniques in three-phase systems is presented. Practical considerations like sampling rate, processing power, accuracy, effect of harmonics, etc., are taken into account during the design of the software
