Abstract :
Today medical equipment is one of the pillars of healthcare services. Their proper functioning is critical for the quality of these services. A recent study has stated that medical equipment management is suffering a real problem in Sudan which is represented in a performance gap of 78% benchmarked with the target of the clinical engineering services assessment system (CESAS). This paper aims to investigate the problem and propose the proper solutions by determining the root causes to be neutralized. The problem-solving techniques have been used which are check sheets, Pareto charts, brainstorming, fishbone diagram and fault tree. Those techniques have been used to better define the problem and then determining the root causes. The root causes of this problem are the absence of law, standard and professional administration at ministries of health (MOHs). Cross matched with this root causes, the solutions have been proposed which are legislating the law, forming a professional administrations and developing the standards for the practice. They haven´t verified because of the limitation of time and authority.
