Abstract :
Much has been written concerning motor insulation system integrity in the presence of the stresses introduced by long cable lengths between three phase induction motors and IGBT adjustable speed drives (ASDs) with fast rise times. This paper discusses options available to cope with these stresses. It also discusses a need to verify that motors are capable of adequate life in the presence of the these voltage stresses. Form coil and random winding patterns are discussed as are the effects of partial discharges and their prevention.
