Abstract :
In this paper, a novel planar printed monopole antenna for ultrawideband (UWB) applications is presented. The proposed antenna is based on a compact-size 25×20×1.6-mm3 FR4-epoxy substrate and has a diamond-like patch. Slots with the shape of a 45°-rotated 2nd-iterated Sierpinski-carpet are incorporated in the patch. The antenna is mictrostrip-line fed and has a partial ground plane flushed with the feed line. The VSWR of the antenna was simulated using FEM and MoM numerical techniques. The former revealed a 3.5-11 GHz impedance bandwidth for VSWR <; 2. A 2.88-11 GHz MoM-based operable bandwidth was witnessed for VSWR <; 2.05. The antenna showed acceptable peak gain figures, good radiation efficiency values and omnidirectional radiation patterns over the frequency span of interest.
