Abstract :
The authors describe an approach for including the security aspects in the optimal matching of supply and demand over the coming week in a hydro thermal power supply system. System security is considered in the optimization procedure by including contingency analyses that take into account the explicit consequences of outages as well as possible post-contingency rescheduling actions. For solving this problem, a decomposition approach is adopted which consists of a hydraulic part and an electric part. The hydraulic part observes the constraints in the hydraulic system while the electric part includes the electrical network analyses, which may be based on DC or full AC-description. In the electrical analysis, available spot-market options are optimally dealt with within each hour. In the operational phase, deviations from forecasted developments causes rescheduling actions to be made. The authors present a methodology based on quadratic programming for security constrained optimal rescheduling of units
