Abstract :
The ever-increasing demand for power and the corresponding greater complexity of power systems is leading to more severe problems of system stability, for instance a hydro-driven generator supplying power to a load via a long transmission line. The effect of high line resistance may result in electromechanical oscillations or hunting of generator rotors which could lead to abnormal stresses in and damage to the generator-turbine shaft. The use of bundled conductors and series capacitance to compensate for large line reactance of the transmission lines is a popular method of increasing the capacity of power transmission over long distance lines. It is very important therefore to determine the stability of such systems so that appropriate level of compensation and degree of stability is allowed for in the design of power generator systems
