Abstract
The author examines the development, operational experience, and future prospect of computerised control on the 11 kV distribution network of the Hongkong Electric Co. Ltd. (HEC). Computerized control proves to be successful in saving human efforts in carrying out switching manually at substations. Apart from saving time required for switching, it is also a safer means of switching. It also reduces the supply interruption time to an acceptable level in the event of a 11 kV cable fault and can be seen as an economical alternative to a full ring 11 kV network installed with unit protection
