Abstract
There has been continuing and growing widespread interest in the use of network flow (NF) methods to solve power system problems, such as load flow calculations, economic dispatching, security analysis, reliability evaluation and other planning and operational planning procedures. The authors review the potential of NF solutions and highlight their features for some particular power system problems. The authors start by giving a brief presentation of the structure of network flow problems, then build up common ground by an analogy with conventional power system solutions. Then the NF applications and their merits are discussed in turn and some useful ideas are recommended for further investigation
