  • Abstract
    Several enhancements for the Newton optimal power flow approach are presented. The OPF deals with the minimization of system MW losses while satisfying system security constraints by adjusting reactive power controllers. These enhancements include programming technique and treatment of inequality constraints. The presented programming technique improves the numerical stability while solving the algebraic equations of necessary condition for optimality. The enhanced treatment for the inequality constraints enables Newton OPF to efficiently identify proper binding inequality constraints. A practical 217-bus system, namely Taipower system, is adopted to serve as a sample for illustrating the applicability of the enhanced Newton OPF
