Abstract
Measurement of power system current by the magneto-optic Faraday effect is a new and elegant method having advantages of better frequency response, noise immunity and less insulation requirement compared to the conventional system. However, as the authors describe, there are finer points to be solved before the design of a magneto-optic device can be implemented in practice. The authors give details of two magneto-optic experimental devices, one based on bulk and the other based on fibre, and give recommendations in the light of the practical and theoretical investigations
