Abstract
A new approach to analyze regulator´s effects on power system damping is presented. Traditionally the effect of a regulator on power system dynamics are analyzed by studying the synchronous torque and the damping torque provided by the regulator. Regulator´s effects can be also analyzed by modal analysis approaches by examining the displacements of swing modes of a power system caused by the installation of a regulator. A sensitivity method the sensitivity of regulator´s effect is used to analyze the effects of voltage regulators and power system stabilizers on power system damping
